I refuse to behave fraudulently, as if I was anything else but African.

About This Quote

I refuse to behave fraudulently, as if I was anything else but African. Nelson Mandela made this statement when he was unjustly imprisoned for 27 years. He was referring to the kinds of people he saw around him who had been brainwashed by the white government and were willing to stop at nothing to achieve their goals. They would agree to anything just to get what they wanted.

Mandela knew that those people would not be able to bring him any real change and would only do him harm. He refused to perform fraudulent acts and live on false pretenses. Instead, he chose to live his life as a true African and fight against the system that was keeping him from doing so.
